Fairymead house, built in 1890 to an Indian bungalow plan, was originally the home of the Young family, owners of Fairymead Sugar Mill and Plantation. During 1984, Bundaberg Sugar Company donated the home to the City of Bundaberg as an Australian Bicentennial gift. Relocated to Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, the homestead is now a sugar industry museum, housing photographs and memorabilia exploring the development of the sugar industry, technology and the history of milling over two levels.

A look inside the Hinkler Hall of Aviation
The Hinkler Hall of Aviation is a tourist attraction and visitor experience operated by the Bundaberg Regional Council. The complex is an outstanding example of several communities working together with all levels of government to celebrate and honour the life and pioneering efforts of Bundaberg’s own aviation pioneer, Bert Hinkler. The Hinkler Hall of Aviation pays tribute to Bert Hinkler as a pioneer of flight and as a person who was significant in the advancement of aviation during the early 20th century.

Loggerhead turtle female, coming to lay her eggs on the beach at Mon Repos

Mon Repos, on the coast of Bundaberg, supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region.

It is an amazing sight to see these huge creatures heaving their way up the beach to find a safe spot to dig a nest and lay their eggs. And then, if you’re lucky, to come back some 6-8 weeks later and see the tiny hatchlings emerging from their sandy nests to scurry down the beach towards the sea.
for more details go to Bundaberg Region discover the turtles
Ranger-guided Turtle Encounters operate seven nights a week from November to late March. (excluding 24, 25 and 31 December.)Nesting turtles are best viewed after dark, from November to January. Turtle hatchlings are best viewed from January to March, after dark.
